Garcia-Milà promises "courage" and "boldness" as head of the Círculo de Economía (Economic Circle).

Carmina Ganyet (Colonial), Jordi Gual (VidaCaixa) and Pau Guardans (Único Hoteles), vice presidents of the Barcelona opinion forum in the new phase.
Continuity and change are expected in one of the most representative bodies of the Catalan ruling class, the Círculo de Economía (Economics Circle ), which has been chaired since Monday by economics professor Teresa Garcia-Milà . She is the first woman to assume the position , and her objective is very clear: for her opinion pieces to "be bold and take a long-term view" of the political, economic, and social challenges facing Catalonia, the rest of Spain, and all of Europe.
"We will be bold when necessary; the Círculo de Economía is expected to say what others cannot," emphasized Garcia-Milà, who until now held one of the two vice-presidencies alongside Penguin Random House CEO Núria Cabutí.
In this new phase, the forum, which brings together business leaders, academics, and executives, will have three vice-presidents, one woman and two men. These vice-presidents will be Carmina Ganyet , the corporate general manager of Colonial ; Jordi Gual , the non-executive chairman of VidaCaixa and former chairman of CaixaBank; and Pau Guardans , the CEO of Único Hotels and former chairman of Barcelona Global.
Notary public Camino Quiroga will serve as secretary, while Clara Campàs , co-founder of Asabys Partners, will serve as treasurer. Miquel Nadal will remain as general manager.
The Círculo was founded in 1951 as a chess club, attempting to circumvent Franco's repression. Its goal was to modernize Spain economically and politically, and Garcia-Milà saw the need to continue emphasizing "liberal democracy, the market economy, and Europe." These were its core values, which it saw as "threatened" by "disinformation, populism, and trade barriers." At the end of his first speech, he received a prolonged round of applause, with which the members demonstrated their optimism for the new phase the forum was embarking on.
The current president, Jaume Guardiola , expressed his gratitude after holding the position for three years. He assumed this responsibility in the summer of 2022, following the Círculo's first elections.
